Mauro Camoranesi lo rompió todo. Los ligamentos. También los meniscos. Le destruyó la cápsula, un tendón y también afectó nervios de la rodilla izquierda. Con ese planchazo, además, se llevó los sueños futbolísticos de Javier Pizzo, el lateral izquierdo al que dejó tirado en la cama de un hospital y a quien jamás visitó ni llamó. “No necesité que nadie me dijese ‘no vas a volver a jugar al fútbol’, yo lo sabía”, recuerda el ex defensor de Alvarado y víctima de la brutal acción ocurrida el 14 de agosto de 1994, a la que la Justicia consideró de “notoria torpeza, un exceso en la práctica del deporte, anormal y evitable”.
La patada de Camoranesi fue motivo de estudio, tanto para los médicos como para los jueces: no existían antecedentes clínicos de un daño tan rotundo ni causas que trataran la intencionalidad en una jugada de consecuencias gravísimas. Lo paradójico es que aquel momento fatídico, hace casi 27 años, para Pizzo representó el final de una carrera pero el comienzo (o la profundización) de otra. Así lo reconstruye el protagonista de esta historia de superación, en diálogo con Infobae, desde su oficina en Mar del Plata: “Como era consciente de la gravedad y del tiempo que me iba a llevar, aún estando internado ya comencé a estudiar más. Empecé a leer más, un poco porque también necesitaba desviar mi mente hacia otro objetivo. Se dio de forma casi natural. A partir de la lesión, en el término de un año y seis meses rendí 14 materias y me recibí. Hice casi la mitad de la carrera -que antes me hubiese llevado cuatro años y medio- entre septiembre del 94 y marzo del 96 y me convertí en abogado”.
Pizzo, como letrado, tomó su propia historia como un caso a plantear.
-Aplicaste lo estudiado a tu propio caso y fuiste a juicio contra Camoranesi. ¿Cómo fue ese largo proceso?
-Terminaba la carrera de Derecho y sentía que había una injusticia en lo que me había sucedido. No había redes sociales y me fui a la biblioteca del Colegio de Abogados de Mar del Plata a buscar casos precedentes: algo que en lo que en mi cabeza era una injusticia, tuviera jurisprudencia en los Tribunales. Encontré un fallo (Cotroneo) que es el precedente más inmediato a lo que me había sucedido. Un abogado, papá de una amiga, me dio el buen consejo de exponer mis afirmaciones en un expediente judicial. Sobre los tiempos de la justicia (Camoranesi fue sentenciado a pagar $200.000 en 2011) hubo muchas particularidades sobre el domicilio del demandado: notificarlo en otros países era muy difícil. Recién lo logramos cuando jugaba en Juventus. Esta sentencia fue confirmada tanto en Cámara como en la Corte de la provincia de Buenos Aires, lo que a mí me dejó tranquilidad. Tenía el aval de un video, creo que sin ese video hubiese sido muy difícil demostrarlo.
Durante los días que pasó internado, Pizzo no sólo estudió para las materias en las que se había enfocado en pleno dolor. Se mentalizó en la rehabilitación que debería afrontar para recuperar -en la medida de lo posible- la capacidad de su pierna izquierda. “Todavía internado, vino un amigo y me dijo ‘vas a poder volver a jugar de manera recreativa, aunque sea con un bastón’. Y me quedó eso, volví a practicarlo, aunque la lesión me llevó a una artrosis severa, tenía 36 por ciento de capacidad en la pierna y serias limitaciones que me dejaron problemas lumbares, pero hago deportes casi todos los días de mi vida: bicicleta, gimnasia, lo que sea. El deporte ha sido fundamental y es una ayuda física y espiritual”, plantea quien desde hace una década es fiscal de delitos económicos. Para esa tarea también tiene presente al fútbol: “El deporte educa, más si se hace en equipo. Y eso es lo que intento aplicar en mi grupo de trabajo, escuchar al otro es importante. Ser fiscal es muy complejo porque el delito sigue creciendo. En mi rol tomo decisiones que siempre a una parte no le gustan, en cambio cuando jugaba en Alvarado me querían todos”. El estudio, en su caso, fue la mejor gambeta al impacto del abrupto final de sus sueños de botines y pantalones cortos.
– ¿Qué significó estudiar en un momento tan difícil?
– Mi padre era un trabajador que hizo un gran esfuerzo para que mis hermanos y yo estudiáramos. Nos enseñó que el conocimiento da libertad. Hoy le inculco lo mismo a mis hijos: el conocimiento otorga la posibilidad de elegir, dentro de las circunstancias que nos toquen vivir. Siempre es bueno tener un conocimiento, cualquiera sea -un oficio, profesión, título universitario, terciario- para poder tener más libertad de elección. A la carrera de Derecho la tenía como una visión de futuro, lo que ocurre es que una vez sucedido el trauma me di cuenta de la gravedad. Tuve mucho acompañamiento de mi familia, amigos y estudiantes de esa época con los que habíamos hecho un gran grupo, lo que me ayudó. Por eso, aún estando internado, comencé a estudiar.
– ¿Anímicamente cómo lidiaste con la lesión? ¿Tuviste apoyo psicológico?
– Las caídas anímicas se pueden presentar y ser profundas. En mi caso no fue solamente la cuestión profesional de jugar al fútbol, sino que un hecho traumático produce un cambio vertiginoso, inmediato, y tenés que enfrentarte de pronto a una serie de operaciones o de limitaciones que hasta ese momento no tenías. Afecta en lo físico y en lo anímico en las perspectivas. Además de la contención, obviamente depende de los temperamentos y de cómo cada uno encare esa modificación sustancial de la vida. Creo que lo importante es hacer un diagnóstico con claridad y saber qué podemos hacer y qué no: opciones siempre tenemos. No tuve psicólogo, fue una decisión personal en ese momento pero creo que debería haberlo tenido. No es fácil verse frustrado en los objetivos debido a un trauma.
– ¿Cómo es quedar afuera del fútbol?
-El club Alvarado me acompañó económicamente. Pero el tiempo de las lesiones largas te va haciendo enfrentar a los meses, o al año, situaciones en las que la vida transcurre y una vez cerrado el contrato pasás a estar solo. Cuando ya no tenés vínculo con un club, el mundo sigue girando y vos seguís con el mismo problema: ahí es donde se debería apoyar a los clubes que no tienen un sostén cuando un jugador sufre una lesión grave. Los grandes clubes se nutren de jugadores que muchas veces provienen del amateurismo. En el fútbol los casos tan graves no suceden tan reiteradamente como podría ser, pero debería darse contención cuando ocurren. En su momento dialogué con gente del fútbol y considero que las transferencias de jugadores permitirían crear fondos sostenibles y solidarios para aquellos jóvenes que están en el interior del país -sobre todo- y que en el fútbol amateur no tienen la capacidad de solventar todo lo que conlleva una lesión grave. El trauma no es sólo para el lesionado, también para su familia.
Al fútbol no sólo se juega en la cancha. A los dirigentes, que se mueven en los escritorios, los había inquietado el reclamo motorizado por Pizzo, más allá de que su causa no era contra Aldosivi y estaba dirigida exclusivamente a su agresor. “Una de las cuestiones que se debatía en aquel momento desde el poder futbolístico era: ‘si esta situación le sale bien a Pizzo, sienta un precedente muy complicado porque vamos a tener que hacernos cargo de lesiones de muchos jugadores’. Y la verdad es que las cosas tienen que ser analizadas más detenidamente: no es muy habitual que un jugador le provoque una lesión muy grave a otro. Recibimos mensajes, no directamente, pero nos hacían saber de la preocupación que tenían. Más allá de eso, el que me conoce sabe que no hay ningún tipo de mensaje que pudiera cambiar mi convicción de que eso podía ayudar a otros jugadores”, advierte.
Pizzo es un hombre que aprendió a reinventarse. Lo había hecho como futbolista, cuando llegó a Mar del Plata para estudiar Derecho y los clubes de la ciudad advirtieron que era un zurdo de buenas condiciones. Arribó con la estampa de un mediocampista de prolijo manejo, pero el entrenador José Enrique Diez le dio una recomendación: “Me dijo ‘si querés llegar a Primera, vas a ser un excelente 3; pero no sos el 10 que creés que podrías ser’”. El consejo coincidió con el criterio de Racing, que lo había descubierto en los regionales y le ofreció un contrato para mudarse a Avellaneda en 1995, justo cuando Diego Armando Maradona asumiría como técnico de la Academia. Diego, la leyenda que guió a la gloria a la Selección en México 86, no fue el último argentino en levantar la Copa del Mundo. Mauro Camoranesi, 22 años después de aquella patada a Pizzo, supo cuánto pesa el trofeo más preciado del planeta. Lo alzó con la camiseta de Italia, a la que representó en el Mundial 2006, mientras Pizzo lo siguió por televisión y demostró que lo suyo no es ser rencoroso, ya que hinchó por la Azzurra.
– Jugar un Mundial y ganarlo es lo máximo para un futbolista. ¿Cómo lo viviste al ver a Camoranesi ahí?
– Lo viví con alegría porque mi familia tiene raíces italianas y yo tengo la ciudadanía. Y lo viví de una manera particular con mis hijos mirando el partido, no tenía nada contra Camoranesi. Lo que sí veía era el reconocimiento de ser el lesionado por Camoranesi, me puso sobre el tapete por aquella acción. No lo viví con tristeza ni rencor, tuve la alegría de que ganara Italia.
– Y más allá de lo estrictamente jurídico, ¿qué actitud esperabas o deseabas encontrar en lo humano del lado de Camoranesi?
– Esperar, no esperaba nada. Básicamente porque no conocía a quien provocó la lesión. Pero creo que las cuestiones se pueden resolver fuera del ámbito judicial con un pedido de disculpas. Me parece que frente a las cuestiones con las consecuencias que surgen de nuestros hechos, siempre es importante brindar explicaciones y pedir disculpas si se necesita. Pero no es lo que espero de todo el mundo, nunca tuve una cuestión personal con el demandado ni deseándole nada malo. Lo que llevé a la Justicia fue con el interés de sentar un precedente que después fue internacional, porque creo que en estas cuestiones hay una parte débil que es el lesionado. Débil porque el lesionado es el que queda afuera de todo el circuito, el mundo del fútbol gira en función de un sistema y el lesionado pasa al olvido. Tampoco quise iniciar una demanda a su club, Aldosivi, porque entendía que el “partido” que yo jugaba lo hice con quien debía. La Justicia nos dio la razón. Nacional e internacionalmente fue interesante trasladar el caso desde la vista del actor y a su vez afectado por lo ocurrido.
– ¿Tomarías un café con él?
– Si con eso ayudara a alguien, no tengo problemas. Pero creo que después de tanto tiempo, no sé hasta qué punto puede haber interés de hablar de un hecho que trajo consecuencias para los dos. No guardo ningún tipo de rencor en mi vida, ni siquiera en este hecho. Por ejemplo, después de dejar el fútbol formé una gran familia, algo que no tenía en vista cuando empecé a jugar. Mis hijos nacieron después de sucedido ese hecho, son futboleros y lo sucedido no es un tema de vital trascendencia porque tampoco se los inculqué así.
– En la causa consta que te quería Racing. ¿Te imaginabas ahí?
– La verdad que sí, lo pensaba. La lesión hizo que no se diese, con lo cual la frustración es un poco mayor. Y en ese momento no queda otra que reinventarse y decir “bueno, aquél ya no es el camino y vamos a ir por otro”. Jugaba en un club muy pasional como Alvarado, que tiene gente increíble que nos acompañaba a todos lados, hacía ese paralelo con la gente de Racing, que también es así. Lo mío era un paso trascendente económico y profesional, en el folclore del fútbol ya en Mar del Plata nos acompañaban todos los días, nos iban a ver hasta en los entrenamientos, en la panadería o en la calle los hinchas te hacían sentir que estaban. Más allá de eso, pensaba en cómo iba a cambiar vivir en otra ciudad.
Camoranesi, paradójicamente, sí vistió la camiseta de Racing. Lo hizo en la temporada 2012/13, en la que protagonizó a la que consideró -en una entrevista- como “la peor patada” que dio en su carrera: un planchazo a Gabriel Heinze, en un partido ante Newell’s. No había sido la única acción de violencia excesiva que protagonizó el ex Juventus, quien en 2011, cuando se desempeñaba en Lanús, le había pisado la cara a Patricio Toranzo. Esas patadas arteras no llevaron a Pizzo al momento vivido en 1994, pero sí le sirvieron para “reafirmar lo que se había planteado ante la Justicia” sobre el accionar de Camoranesi en aquel clásico entre Alvarado y Aldosivi. “Cuando vi esas jugadas contra Heinze y Toranzo, me permitió ratificar que habíamos estado frente a una personalidad que tenía este tipo de situaciones”, concluye este fiscal apasionado por el fútbol, quien tuvo que dejar las canchas, pero se enfoca en su partido de todos los días: combatir delitos.
