La Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) alertó esta semana que la variante Delta del coronavirus, mucho más contagiosa, será la dominante en el mundo en los próximos meses y los Gobiernos se dividen principalmente entre dos estrategias para frenarla: cierres y controles en la frontera, e incentivos y esfuerzos para acelerar la vacunación.
Al jueves pasado, la variante Delta ya había sido detectada en 124 países y territorios -13 más que la semana anterior- y representaba más de tres cuartas partes de las muestras secuenciadas en muchos países, explicó la OMS en su informe epidemiológico semanal, una tendencia que los países intentan contrarrestar por diferentes carriles.
En América Latina, por ejemplo, el Gobierno de Ecuador lanzó a mediados de julio junto a la Cervecería Nacional el Pasaporte de Vacunación, una iniciativa para incentivar la inoculación que, entre los beneficios, cuenta con el obsequio de una cerveza a quienes ya fueron inmunizados. Esta campaña también incluye descuentos en negocios de gastronomía, bebidas, entretenimiento, belleza, salud y viajes, consignó el sitio Primicias.
Algo parecido ocurrió en bares de distintas provincias de Argentina, como Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Tucumán, Mendoza y Corrientes, donde los dueños ofrecen pintas gratis, si el cliente presenta su carnet de vacunación. La campaña de vacunación ya superó al 50% de la población con una dosis, las fronteras siguen cerradas al turismo y cada localidad establece sus propias restricciones.
