El 80% de los trabajadores del Hospital Bernardo Houssay, perteneciente a PAMI, padece estrés crónico a causa de la pandemia, según un relevamiento difundido por la licenciada María Herrero, psicóloga y especialista en Gestión de Calidad Hospitalaria del nosocomio.
El informe trata de visualizar la magnitud del impacto de la pandemia en el personal que ejerce sus funciones en los nosocomios, desde seguridad en las puertas, a los administrativos o quienes se desarrollan en las UTI o especialidades médicas.
“Es alarmante: están en una situación de estrés crónico, sienten una gran soledad y la desconfianza de los familiares de los pacientes ha crecido notablemente”, consideró Herrero.
Estas conclusiones se pudieron materializar gracias a la realización de un estudio en la Escala de Maslow, la única científicamente permitida para analizar el estrés extremo o “burnout” (cerebro quemado). Y los resultados, que fueron extremos, serán presentados en el Congreso de Psicología que se espera vuelva a realizarse en Mar del Plata en octubre próximo.
El estudio realizado en 300 trabajadores del Houssay demostró que muchos profesionales y trabajadores han llegado a su pico máximo de cronicidad: “Cuando se replantean su trabajo. Cuando ya pasaste la irritabilidad, angustia, ansiedad, tratamientos psicológicos, medicación, falta de ganas de trabajar, te cuestionás tu rol”, explicó.
Además, señaló que antes “un médico en UTI salvaba el 70% de las vidas y ahora se mueren por momentos el 98% o están mucho tiempo dando vueltas por distintas áreas. La mortalidad aumentó de manera estrepitosa”.
“Es un estrés que tiene consecuencias de las que no se habla”, afirmó Herrero y explicó: “Los pacientes conviven con nosotros las 24 horas, todo el tiempo que están acá. Y nuestro hospital, al ser de PAMI, tiene la característica especial de contar con pacientes con internación prolongada y requerimientos psíquicos y físicos más importantes que en otros hospitales”.
Además de los pacientes, hoy el personal de salud también carga en sus hombros la responsabilidad de contener y entender a las familias: “El aislamiento genera que vos como familiar traigas a tu ser querido y no lo veas más. Tu afecto queda en manos nuestras, el tiempo que sea y vos quedaste afuera con toda la incertidumbre. Entonces la desconfianza para con el personal ha crecido porque hay gente que da hasta tres hisopados negativos y luego positivo. Y es lógico que el familiar se preocupe, que se pregunte por qué da negativo y luego positivo; creen que se contagiaron acá, creen que no los estás atendiendo bien…es normal, pero el familiar antes no cuestionaba la praxis médica porque la veía”.
“El estrés entonces es desde lo psicológico a lo físico. Hemos tenido médicos con ataques de pánico en los pasillos. Por suerte a través de Pami, hicimos un convenio con la Universidad Atlántida Argentina y tenemos asistencia psicológica grupal e individual para todo el personal de manera permanente”, remarcó Herrero, aunque aún contrarrestar la falta de descanso por imposibilidad de vacaciones, por cobertura de licencias ante covid, más los nuevos requerimientos de cada labor, dificultan la situación.
Por último, sostuvo que si bien gracias a la vacunación “el panorama ha mejorado notablemente”, no se olvida que “hace dos meses el 100% de los hisopados daban positivos” y que “el 98% del personal ya tuvo covid y más de una vez”.
