Un estudio de las autoridades sanitarias de Inglaterra indicó que haber recibido dos dosis de las vacunas Pfizer/BioNTech o AstraZeneca/Oxford protege eficazmente de una hospitalización a causa de la variante Delta del coronavirus, identificada inicialmente en India.
Según esta investigación de Public Health England (PHE), recibir dos dosis de Pfizer/BionTech protege un 96% contra las hospitalizaciones debidas a la variante Delta, mientras que Oxford/AstraZeneca ofrece una eficacia del 92%, replicó la agencia AFP.
Se trata de “resultados comparables a la eficacia de la vacuna en la prevención de la hospitalización relacionada con la variante Alfa”, aparecida en diciembre en Inglaterra.
Del 12 de abril al 4 de junio, el estudio analizó 14.019 casos de personas que contrajeron esta variante, de las cuales 166 fueron hospitalizadas.
Esto “muestra lo crucial que es vacunarse por segunda vez”, afirmó el ministro de Sanidad, Matt Hancock, congratulándose de que el programa de vacunación británico “ya ha salvado miles de vidas”.

La variante Delta, un 60% más contagiosa que la Alfa, es ahora dominante en el Reino Unido, país más castigado de Europa por la pandemia, con casi 128.000 muertos.
Ante esta situación, el primer ministro Boris Johnson debía anunciar el lunes un aplazamiento de la última fase del desconfinamiento, inicialmente prevista el 21 de junio.
Ante el reciente aumento del número de contagios, en torno a los 7.000 diarios, retrasar el levantamiento total de las restricciones, prolongando entre otras cosas el teletrabajo, permitiría completar la vacunas de más británicos para protegerlos contra síntomas graves, hospitalización y muerte.
Más de 41,5 millones de personas, es decir, casi el 79% de la población adulta del Reino Unido, ya han recibido al menos una primera dosis y de ellos 29,8 millones de personas, 56,6% de los adultos, las dos dosis necesarias…..
