El régimen cubano atraviesa por estas horas uno de los momentos más complejos de las últimas décadas. Como pocas veces en su historia reciente, robustas protestas se fueron movilizando en varias ciudades del país, aunque desde luego la información escasea porque las autoridades decidieron cortar el internet y las señales telefónicas ante el creciente flujo de videos y fotografías que circulaban en las redes sociales.
La principal exigencia en las manifestaciones era por la “libertad”, pero uno de los detonantes había sido los crecientes cortes de energía que hubo durante las últimas semanas, en medio de una pandemia que golpeó fuerte en la isla y que por la caída del turismo sufre una sequía de divisas que algunos cubanos afirman que los hace padecer un presente aún más duro que el sufrido durante el “período especial”.
En las imágenes que ya circulan en las redes, al igual que en los reportes que hacen algunos ciudadanos cubanos, se observaron enfrentamientos con las fuerzas de seguridad de Cuba. En La Habana, una masiva columna de manifestantes avanzó hasta el Capitolio y circularon también por el emblemático Malecón.
También hubo movilizaciones en San Antonio de Los Baños, Güira de Melena y Alquízar en la provincia occidental de Artemisa, Palma Soriano en Santiago de Cuba y también salió gente a las calles en varios barrios de La Habana.
La economía cubana se ha visto muy afectada debido a que el turismo y las importaciones de mercancías han caído abruptamente durante la pandemia. Ayer los funcionarios de salud cubanos informaron un aumento récord en un solo día de casos y muertes por Covid.
“Estamos convocando a todos los revolucionarios del país, a todos los comunistas a que salgan a las calles, en donde se vayan a producir estas provocaciones. Hoy, a estas horas, y en todos los próximos días. Y enfrentarla con decisión, con firmeza y con valentía”, pidió el presidente Miguel Díaz-Canel, eun un mensaje grabado en video.
Y agregó: “Vamos a las calles, estamos ya en las calles y no vamos a permitir que nadie venga a defender un plan que no es un plan cubano, que no es un plan para la nación cubana y que es un plan anexionista. Y a eso es a lo que convocamos a los revolucionarios y a los comunistas de este país”.
Los medios alineados al gobierno cubano potenciaron la hipotesis de Díaz-Canel respecto de la mano internacional para debilitar “a la revolución” y desmintieron lo que muchos de sus detractores plantean sobre la negativa del regimen para recibir ayuda económica. Además, destacaron el peso del bloqueo económico que Estados Unidos impone a la isla, en una crisis agravada por la pandemia.
El senador republicano, Marco Rubio, fue uno de los primeros dirigentes de Estados Unidos en repudiar la represión policial como también Julie Chang, una de las espadas de Joe Biden en la relación con América Latina. También se sumaron artistas como René y Daddy Yankee.
Se espera que en los próximos días las protestas continúen y con ello la posibilidad de enfrentamientos.
