Por tercer año, el CONICET Mar del Plata presenta el ciclo de charlas “Diálogos sobre…”, que abordará el tema de los plásticos durante el primer encuentro de este año a realizarse de modo virtual el próximo 25 de agosto a las 14:00.
En esta edición virtual el evento se transmitirá por el canal de Youtube de Prensa CONICET Mar del Plata y en la página de Facebook CONICET Mar del Plata. El objetivo es que la comunidad pueda dialogar con investigadores y referentes de ciencia sobre diferentes temas de interés local.
La charla que inaugura esta tercera edición es “Diálogos sobre plásticos” que contará con un panel formado por la especialista en materiales e investigadora principal del Instituto de Investigaciones en Ciencia y Tecnología de los materiales (INTEMA- CONICET, UNMDP) Vera Álvarez; Fernando Graña, economista, integrante del grupo de Análisis Industrial y docente de la Facultad de Ciencias Económicas de la UNMDP.
También serán de la partida los investigadores adjuntos del Instituto de Investigaciones Marinas y Costeras (IIMyC- CONICET, UNMDP) Juan Pablo Seco Pon y Mauricio Díaz Jaramillo, quienes centran sus estudios en los efectos de plásticos en aves marinas y la presencia de microplásticos en estuarios bonaerenses, respectivamente.
Esta temática surge a partir de la creciente preocupación por la presencia de plásticos contaminando diferentes ecosistemas, llegando a formar “islas de plásticos” en varios océanos.
Según la Organización de las Naciones Unidas anualmente se producen más de 400 millones de toneladas de plástico en el mundo y solo el nueve por ciento de los desperdicios de esta naturaleza son reciclados.
Los desechos plásticos generados suelen tener como destino final el mar, llegando a encontrarse islas enteras formadas por este material; este además puede fragmentarse y generar microplásticos que entran en la cadena alimentaria afectando la vida marina. El objetivo del encuentro es generar un diálogo con representantes científicos para concientizar sobre la producción y consumo de plásticos.
Además, el evento es realizado en el marco del BIOPOLI 2021, workshop que se desarrollará de manera virtual del 23 al 25 de agosto, organizado por INTEMA, CONICET-UNMDP. También acompañan en la organización del evento la UNMDP y la Red de Investigación de Estresores Marinos – Costeros en Latinoamérica y El Caribe (REMARCO).
