El Consejo de Empresas Pesqueras Argentinas (CEPA) anunció que este jueves 1 de julio participará de la audiencia pública convocada por el Ministerio de Ambiente y Desarrollo Sostenible de la Nación para evaluar el impacto ambiental de los proyectos de exploración petrolera en el Mar Argentino.
La Cámara que nuclea las principales empresas del sector radicadas en Mar del Plata, anticipó que expresará su inquietud por los efectos que esta nueva actividad podría causar en el ecosistema marino y en el normal desenvolvimiento y desarrollo de la industria pesquera nacional.
Para CEPA, es claro que la exploración y extracción de combustibles en el mar producen impactos de gran magnitud, frente a los cuales deben preverse los correspondientes mecanismos de mitigación, remediación y resarcimiento económico para quienes resulten afectados.
Las experiencias internacionales demuestran que la explotación de hidrocarburos en el mar causa efectos tanto en el medio natural como en las actividades humanas relacionadas con él, particularmente en la pesca o el turismo. Por esa razón CEPA anunció que reclamará que los proyectos en análisis sean evaluados con rigurosidad y que se contemple de forma apropiada la opinión del sector pesquero, el cual gracias a sus exportaciones, le aporta al país una cantidad de divisas prácticamente equivalente a la que provee el sector petrolero, generando además, decenas de miles de puestos de trabajo de manera directa e indirecta.
Las iniciativas que serán tratadas en la audiencia pública del próximo 1 de julio son las primeras de un conjunto de proyectos que apuntan a lograr una autorización para realizar exploraciones sísmicas, tendientes a detectar la presencia de yacimientos de hidrocarburos. Esta tarea implicará el uso de cañones de aire comprimido para penetrar el fondo marino, produciendo ruidos de alta intensidad y baja frecuencia.
En base a numerosos estudios científicos realizados a nivel internacional, es sabido que esta actividad causará alteraciones en el comportamiento, las condiciones de reproducción, la fisiología y la supervivencia de la vida marina.
Tal situación podría desencadenar perjuicios inmediatos para la pesca y por lo tanto para sus empresas, sus trabajadores y sus familias así como para las economías locales y regionales.
EPA hizo saber que frente a este riesgo asumirá activa participación en este debate a los efectos de exigir que cualquier nueva actividad en el mar no afecte los intereses ni la viabilidad de un sector que, como es el caso la pesca, depende de recursos renovables y que por lo tanto requiere de la existencia de políticas públicas que prioricen los criterios de sustentabilidad para continuar aportando a la seguridad alimentaria y para seguir proporcionando beneficios para las generaciones futuras tal y como lo ha venido haciendo desde su surgimiento en la Argentina.
