Los defensores del pueblo Daniel Barragán y Fernando Rizzi recibieron hoy a integrantes de la “Asamblea por un mar libre de petróleo”, de la que participan vecinos y agrupaciones ambientalistas de la ciudad.
En la ocasión, transmitieron la preocupación de la asamblea y de muchas organizaciones, entidades y vecinos, por el proyecto de exploración sísmica petrolera en el Mar Argentino, frente a las costas de Mar del Plata, por parte de las empresas Equinor, Shell e YPF.
Además, compartieron el temor por los daños ambientales que pudiera derivarse en caso de avanzar estas acciones de exploración, sobre todo en cuanto a la posibilidad de derrames en el mar y de afectación a las especies animales.
El tema de la explotación petrolera fue tratado en una audiencia pública que comenzó el 1 de julio pasado, convocada por el Ministerio de Ambiente y Desarrollo Sostenible, en la que participaron más de 300 expositores, que en su gran mayoría expusieron su oposición al proyecto.
Las ambientalistas señalaron que un estudio realizado por expertos de la Universidad Nacional del Centro de la provincia de Buenos Aires advierte que de continuar con las tareas de exploración y explotación petrolera el riesgo de accidentes que provoquen un daño ambiental, social y económico es del 100%.
Los defensores del pueblo también mantuvieron una reunión en la semana con el ingeniero Darío Sócrate, gerente del Consejo de Empresas Pesqueras Argentinas (CEPA), con quien conversaron sobre los efectos nocivos sobre el recurso ictícola, en detrimento de la industria pesquera nacional, que genera importantes ingresos al país.
